Long ago, when the world was still young, raw forces of magic swept across Valdaire wild and untamed. In those early days, often referred to as the Age of Myth, three great and wondrous races emerged: the grand and mighty dragons, the swift and silent gryphons, and the wise and graceful phoenix. Each of these races, the Nu'ut as they are now called, possessed a vast understanding of the world around them. They understood the very nature of the magic from which they were born, and it was they who first realized that it followed a specific set of laws. Like a flooded river during a season of storms, these races knew that unless this wild flow of magical energy was given channels through which it could flow and dams in which it could be contained, it would become dangerously unpredictable, causing destruction and mayhem all along its path. The source of this magic came from vast mineral veins located deep beneath Valdaire's surface and through various cracks and vents scattered across world's crust, the arcane energy rose to the top and gushed forth with the force of large geysers. Unchecked, the power of this raw energy would ravage any life in its path, magic-born or not.
