StarStrider is a fully three-dimensional star map using the Hipparcos catalogue compiled by the European Space Agency.

You can navigate using the mouse and the keyboard. Relativistic space-time effects such as aberration and Doppler are shift optional. If you have ordinary red/blue 3D-glasses you will have the option of seeing the parallax with your own eyes.

The program enables you to see the variable distances to the stars without leaving our solar system. Cassiopeia looks really different when you realise that the constellation isn't just a flat W.

You will also learn to appreciate the fact that the closest stars are not always the brightest. The latest 3D-accelerator hardware is supported giving you ultra-smooth frame rates with near-photo quality rendering.

When using the trial version of this program, you will need to restart every 5 minutes.
